Week 10: The Leverage Principle "Using Your Influence Wisely"

Becoming a student of influence means that we must learn to "read" our friends and understand how they think and learn to tailor our influence to meet their particular needs. Everything that we've been learning have been key elements in creating a true Student of Influence. We must continue to practice all these things and exercise them on a consistent basis always challenging ourselves. Although I want to encourage us all to finish strong with our Max Q I hope we all realize that this is just the beginning of journey to live a life of influence for the Kingdom of God in our daily lives.

  1. i think this week is getting our mindset ready for the trip, its about reaching out to your lost friends and those lost around you.And helping people reach the next stage in their walk with Christ.

  2. I think this week I learned that each person needs the Gospel presented in a personal way. It is not a generic tract-formatted evangelism. I would still like to learn how to better adapt OTF to what people need.

  3. This week what popped out to me is that their are two different mind sets that lost people give you but you need to be prepared to influence them in the right way of how they are thinking but ultimatly never give up influencing them. We need to be able to get a basic friendship before jumping into influencing them and we need to be able to read there mind set before just jumping into influencing them.

  4. Oh my!!!! what a stressful week. I've had volleyball everyday and somtimes it lasted till ten 'clock! But through all of the craziness I really enjoyed reading in Isaiah! what a refreshment! I mean our GOD is big and mighty and powerful and that is exactly how Isaiah describes our Lord when I read it on day three!!

  5. This week definately assissted in preparing my mindset for not only the trip, but for future conversations with unbelieving friends. I realized it's important to read people and address them with the correct type of influence!

  6. What stood out the most really was that we base our faith on the resurection of Jesus. Without it there would be no christianity. It's a really important part to think about.

  7. This week really helped prepare me for future conversations with my lost and struggling friends and even this trip. It helped me realize that I can't talk to all of them the same and I need to know the way they think so that I may be able to influence them.

  8. Conversations with friends need to be alot more keeping quiet and letting THEM express themselvs instead of you so you have a better understanding of that person so you know better what to say when you say it.
Romans 10:14-15 was also a good tool to get me into the right mindset for this week

  9. One thing in day one that stood out to me was in 1 Timothy 1:3-7 Max Q asks what paul's concern in these verses are and i put "That we will wander away and turn to meaningless talk" which would mean that we need to stay close to god and learn to tune out the world and listen to god.

  10. This week in Max Q was really awesome! It helped me a lot and really got me thinking. But what really stood out to me was the story in the weekend text. Kelsey's situation with Pratima is similar to the situation I am going through currently. It really helped me realize how I should be acting around my friends and especially those of a different religion. Please keep me in your prayers as this is one of the toughest things I've ever had to do.

  11. I think that on day four, I need to practice the 1st principle more, I dont think that I can read my unbelieving friends very well like some other people can.

  12. i really liked day 3 about all the clues and stuff cuz i think anyone can thing systematically to go in logical orders and reasons of how things r the way they r but it takes either practice or talent to read the clues people give u and build off that

  13. What spoke to me this week was Matthew 9:13- "...For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners."

  14. Over all, I think Max Q has been a good run. It helped me last year establish a time set apart with God and has taught me so much about my faith in Christ and why we are Christians on this hearth.

This week in particular has to have been the most challenging and somewhat confusing weeks out of it all. What I pulled out from it is that I can't just present something that is appealing to me about my faith or Christ, I need to make it relevant to my lost friends and even my found ones too.

  15. Matthew 9:9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

This goes with what I had noticed from the Barbarian Way and I know that it wasn't the point from day 4, I just loved how they connected and it just emphasized the simplicity of the complex choice to live the barbarian way.

  16. I really pike the Phrase that day three gave me, "What to do do? Get a clue." Because if you are trying to wittness to a friend, and things arent working out, you can just default to giving clues about Jesus's love and the joy that gives you.

  17. I had been thinking this week about how incredible God is & how his creation is so complex. Then the next day I read the passage from Isaiah about the exact same thing! We should live in a way that brings glory to our incredible God. "By living a life of beauty, joy, and peace, you can make Christianity too attractive for your friends to ignore." I want other people to want what I've got in Christ.

  18. I think the main thing that i got out of this week was that i need to reach out to my lost friends. and the verse isaiah 40:12-20 really hit me because this puts a huge picture in my mind that our god is huge, and greater than everything!

  19. The question, "are you ready and willing to leverage your life for the name and fame of God?" really is challenging me tonight. Beginning the first couple of steps to start this GO trip training I wasn't ready at all. I wouldn't leverage, but coming close to an end of training and beginning of a very bright future of influence with Christ I realize I'm closer to this so-called leveraging of my life. And it's exciting.

  20. Some of the things that stood out to me this week were...

+ The gospel hasn't lost its power; Christian students have lost the ability to influence their lost friends.

+ But when you focus on building a relational bridge, your job gets a whole lot easier. We can almost guarantee that as you gain influence this way, opportunities will open up for you to talk about your faith, ask hard questions, and challenge your lost friends' belief systems.

+ The resurrection of Jesus Chirsts is the foundation and primary distinction of our faith.

+ Learning to "read" your lost friends and determine the right questions to ask them is key in influencing them. We must learn to master these skills.

  21. I love the last story for the weekend. In today's society people are bombarded with advertisements and marketing schemes. The result: People just don't believe everything they hear. We live in a world where we're more likely to believe something is too good to be true than to simply believe it to be true. That's where living this thing out on a consistent basis comes in. It's becoming harder to just talk about Christ, we have to consistently be living examples of Christ.

  22. What I learned this week was to approach the person in a different way. Don't just walk up to the person and be like "Hey! Let me share to you about Jesus!" because they might get turned off or offended. You want to get to know them, and what they think, so you can elaborate on it. Like Dana said on her blog, you need to understand the person before you share everything. The same in any friendship. You want to start the relationship by getting to know the person, and then once your comfortable with the person, base your relationship off God.

  23. This is what really stuck out to me, "Whether by words or implication, when you present God in all his glory, you ask, 'Isn't our God huge, wonderful, amazing, beautiful? Who can compare-that jock who thinks he owns the football field? The guy who thinks he's God's gift to the opposite sex? The gorgeous girl who just won homecoming queen? That computer geek who's so smart, he could break into Fort Knox with his laptop?'"

  24. i think that the leverage is sorta hard. it requires you to think about how the other person views what you are talking about and what they might say. i should work on that. also, a clue could be showing how happy you are because of how God is working in your life.

  25. Something that stuck out to me this week was that all other world relgions are based on somebodies teaching by not christianity, it's based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ! Also a quote that I like was that by living a magificent life of beauty, joy, and peace, you can make Christianity too attractive for your friends to ignore. This just reminded me that not words alone will lead people to Christ but also by how I live my life for Christ!

  26. I learned thine week that Christ is not always the reason it it the reserection. Every religion has a person they base there belifes off of and they all believe there's is the one but we know the truth and it is our job to teach everyone the really truth.

  27. This week was good what really spoke to me was like that like it said in day one, the new arguments are based on social factors "you will smell bad if you smoke." no one wants to kiss somebody with cigarette breathe so people really need to know what to say or people you are trying to influence will take it the wrong way. But I really should work on meeting new people and going out of my way to influenece my friends and change the way they think about god.

  28. This week, we really enjoyed Max Q. It was helpful to be reminded that we need to cater our responses to our friends needs. The steps for reading our friends were helpful. We especially like number 1, learning to read your unbelieving friends. On day 5, exploring the types and the different levels in nonbelievers was also key in influencing our friends.

  29. "People are afraid of death-not so much of being dead, but getting dead."

This quote describes me almost perfectly. My biggest fear in life is of pain. I hate pain. It scares me to death. (Obviously not literally but still pretty bad.)

I think i just need to let this fear go and give it to God. I have nothing to fear with Him on my side. Because after i do die i will be in Heaven with my Lord and Savior. And thats the best gift of all.

  30. Well.. sorry this is sooo late! BUT this is what i got out of this week!
In day 3 it says in a box "By living a magnificent life, you can make Christianity too attractive to ignore"
That just really popped out to me and made me realize how true it is and if we tried our best to shine our light as bright as we could and had so much fun glorifying him so many more people would be willing to commit!
